Starting September 1, 2019, landlords will need to use a new summons for service of process in all unlawful detainer (eviction) cases. The change is the result of a change in the law which now allows a tenant five court days to respond to any unlawful detainer complaint. Prior to September 1, 2019, a tenant had five calendar days to respond to a complaint. The SUM-130 was modified to reflect this change.
